Cristóbal León and Joaquín Cociña's next feature film, La Plaga, is being co-produced with Kim.. They are known for films that combine photography, drawing, sculpture, dance, and performance.
Cristóbal León and Joaquín Cociña, both born in 1980 in Chile, are a duo of filmmakers and stop-motion animators who have been collaborating since 2007. They studied at the Universidad Católica de Chile, where they developed their passion for visual art. León also pursued his studies at UDK in Berlin and De Ateliers in Amsterdam.
Their work is distinguished by an experimental approach, integrating various techniques such as photography, drawing, sculpture, and performance. They explore profound themes like religion, sexuality, and death through a raw cinematic language, using papier-mâché figures and innocent-looking drawings to address dark subjects.
Their first feature film, "La Casa Lobo" (The Wolf House, 2018), was acclaimed at its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, where it won the Caligari Prize. This film was screened at numerous international festivals and received several distinctions. In 2021, their short film "Los Huesos" (The Bones) was also awarded at the Venice Film Festival, winning the Orizzonti Award for Best Short Film. Their latest film, "The Hyperboreans" (Los Hiperbóreos), made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024, specifically in the Directors' Fortnight section.
Their works have been exhibited in prestigious institutions such as MoMA in New York and Tate in London, consolidating their reputation on the global art scene. They currently live and work in Santiago, Chile.
